Default upgrading problem?

I am a protools 7.3 le user for many years obviously. While I have no necessity toupgrade I would like to before what I use is outdated and unable to be up to par for recording quality and such
only issue I'm curious on is I got my studio from a producer who was moving to Atlanta (I'm in.St. Louis) and bought it off him which had protools already I just.needed the mbox
I don't have his name or registration information
will I still be able to upgrade for 499 somehow (guy at guitar center said I'm basically edged but wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and got the upgrade price instead of paying.top dollar.

I'm guessing Pro Tools was using a dongle back then too. Ilok 1 I think I'm using the next generation Ilok 2. Maybe you can create an account on www.ilok.com and plug in the dongle and see if it gets recognized. I'm thinking if you have no dongle, your software is cracked unless Protools M didn't need the dongle. If you have a license, I would deal with Avid directly.

LE didn't need an iLok for the software
when 9 killed the LE moniker native Pro Tools of all levels needs an iLok to run
the upgrade from LE to 10 uses the serial number of the interface for the upgrade path
when you say Mbox are we talking v1 with the light blue face or v2 with the dark blue face?
v1 is not eligible for the upgrade deal but v2 is

the seller should have done a Transfer of Ownership http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/FAQ/en363631

Even if he didn't do the Transfer of Ownership, your serial number from your Mbox will qualify you to get the $399 upgrade from LE, unless it's the original Mbox 1.

Also assuming the serial number has not already been used for a cross grade previously. It is only good for one cross grade. If all else fails, you can still buy the full Protools 10 software for $699 and get the iLok2 included.

I have the new mbox dark blue. MBOX2Pro to be exact
The Mac is still in the guys name as well tried facebooking/twittering/Googling but nothing found of any use on a contact to get info needed.
the protools was not cracked to my knowledge but plugins were that expired and have to hit quit 10x on multiple insufficient plugins which sucks but would just like the upgrade. Myincome isn't incredible so if its a way to get the 399 upgrade opposed to 699 that would be phenomenal

Craig has the link. I would bring that link to Guitar Center or call them and send it. It sounds like you should be able to crossgrade.
