System reqirements for PT 7 say "SP2" required. Im not sure why they say that, but I can mention that you should check with your machine's manufacturer to see if your computer's BIOS supports SP2. I've got two identical machines- except the BIOS of one is earlier than the other. The older BIOS machine would not allow SP2 to be succesfully installed. It will require me flashing(updating) the BIOS before I can put SP2 on the older machine.

Im totally new to PT though I have years of experience on DP and SX3, so I don't know the performance characteristics of PT. On a related note - I think I did read somewhere on the Cubase forum that someone over there said they didn't want the risks of installing SP2 so they just installed PT LE7 on their SP1 XP machine. They said it works, but who knows?
Is anyone succesfully running PT LE7 on XP SP1?

PT LE v7.x was written on SP2 equipped machines.
Wouldn't bet money it won't work on SP1, but...

It's funny, there are current threads wondering why Digi is so behind the times (XP 64... Vista). And this thread is wondering why it's not recommended to run on a legacy version of XP.

To the original poster... you obviously have an internet capable computer, you can download SP2 from Microsoft, burn it to a CD and install it on your Pro Tools computer.

successfully runnin' 7.3.1 cs2 on SP1 on a P4. and FWIW, 7.3.1 is the best PTLE to date IMHO. and i've been usin' it since V5.x. hope that helps

Yep, I have also tried 7.3.1 on SP1 and it worked perfect. One of my experiments with my old laptop, tried to keep it as clean as possible..
