Default Dell Inspiron 5100 and digi002 rack

Hi,
I checked the compatibility requirements concerning laptops, but most of recommended laptops are not produced anymore. So,...
Is somebody can tell me if a dell inspiron 5100 is compatible with a digi002 rack. I will buy it tomorrow

Dell Inspiron 5100:
P4 2,8Ghz
Ram 1Gb
Ultra ATA/100 HD 60 Gb (running at 4200 rpm)
XP Pro

Actually, I need to record 8 tracks simultaneously but I will mix with 24 tracks no more

THanks

You know I just got my Dell 8500 a couple of days ago and before it even arrived, the model disappeared from the Dell website. Doesn't really instill confidence . You may want to check which chipset is offered in the 5100 and compare it to the "old" supported units on the compatability page.

As for 8500 performance, I'm getting 27 audio tracks on the Davec test (002r connected through WD 80G HD in ADS Firewire Kit enclosure). Was able to bounce 10 tracks of the Davec test. I'm having some weird [bleep] happen inside of 6.1.1 though--intermitten static that has come and gone in a couple of sessions and also some weird volume issues.

Sys
Dell 8500
P4-M 2.2gz
512 Ram
Blue in color, short and wide in stature.

Checked and the 5100 has an approved chipset, the 845 PE. But digi lists only the P4-M and Centrino models for processors when referring to the 8500 at least, and it looks like the 5100 comes with the P4, no suffix. I'd advise sending an email to digi tech support.

Dell Inspiron 8500 (Pentium 4-M) and 600m (Centrino) models

You might try the "Best laptops..." thread too. Good luck.

I hope you mean 7200 RPM for the hard drive.

Also Digi recommends a separate hard drive dedicated to audio recording, so you may want to look at an external USB or Firwire drive if there's no room for an internal one. And check the compatibility page for firewire cards/chipsets that work with the 002, not all of them do. Several people have reported problems when plugging their 002 into their on-board firewire ports.

Cheers,

Dell Inspiron 8600 Pentium M 1.4 to 1.7Ghz - Get it!! Current price is 1299.00-1499.00

Will give you about 32 Tracks with 15 Aux. tracks and over 200 plugins. Far more than you will ever need.

Stay away from P4s!!

Good luck,
Allen
