da88 sync to digi 002
Need to sync da88 to digi 002, which means converting time code to spdif. Any suggestions?

Re: da88 sync to digi 002
Easy!! Just connect them up via midi & either opt/spdif!(chech hardware settings), then set the da88 to sync to external slave, when you press play/rec in PT it(da88) should then sync:)
Use the optical-adat setting/ 8-tracks at a time |

Re: da88 sync to digi 002
You'll need a box to convert the TDIF (DA88 digital format) to ADAT optical. You can then clock off the ADAT clock and use MTC which you can convert via any SMPTE->MTC box. A MOTU Digital Time Piece would work if you want to do analog transfers.

Re: da88 sync to digi 002
Thanks again!! So I am clear, I would
1.connect the TDIF from the da88 to the converter 2.Connect the optical out (ADAT) to the spdif in on the protools 002 Would sync result? Meaning the pt would slave to the da88...I am confused about the 2nd part of your suggestion ie MOTU digi to make analog transfers...The other listed suggestion concerning using the midi connections etc...What do you think? |

Re: da88 sync to digi 002
For synch you need two items.. speed and location. If you feed your TDIF to the IF-ADAT and the lightpipe ADAT to Pro Toos.. and clock off the ADAT input.. you now have speed matched. For location you'd need SMPTE/LTC -- a cheap SMPTE->MTC box will suffice.
If the SMPTE on the DA-88 isn't synchronous with the word clock - or you don't have an IF-ADAT (or Otari UFC-24, etc) for the conversion from TDIF to ADAT and want to do an analog transfer.. then you have no speed relationship between your ADAT and Pro Tools.. you need a synchronizer like the DTP which can phase lock to an LTC stream and generate an S/PDIF clock which you can feed to Pro Tools.
