Default How to create own drum kit?

Hi, forgive me for any ignorance, I am very much a pro tools newbie.

Also, I'm working on Pro Tools 10.

Essentially, I have a bunch of single wav drum samples (kick, snare, hh, etc) that I want to assemble into a MIDI/Virtual instrument on Pro Tools, so I can use the Pencil Tool to create a beat for the project I'm working on. Again, these are files I will be importing from outside of Pro Tools; I don't want to use the available built-in drum kits.

Thanks a million!

You should be able to use Structure (Free?) to trigger your samples.

Here's a video on using Structure in Pro Tools and how to import your own samples.

You could also use Boom. Should be in your plugins list.
It's a beat box drum machine type VI, so it has sounds and beat patterns ready.
It should just be a matter of drag-and-drop to insert your own samples.

I don't believe you can put your own samples into Boom...unless I missed something big in the last update???

Thank you Donald.
You're absolutely right.
I checked the documentation.
I was so shure I had done it before, but it must have been some other dum machine plugnin.
Sorry.

No worries. I'd love it if we could, though!!

That had to be a ton of work!! Thanks for sharing that. I remember Russ saying something about a while back, but I didn't ever check to see if he'd actually done it!

I've watched that video several times, and I don't find what I'm wanting to see: it seems like he's showing us how they have re-mapped the files to allow the inclusion of samples that they have apparently provided for bass and snare. Am I continously missing how to get MY samples into it?

Mickey, What they've done is create MIDI files that map each every beat sequence for each and every category of beats that you see in Boom. What you do is get their MIDI file and then you import whichever MIDI file you want to your session and assign that MIDI track to play a different drum program that is able use whatever samples you wish. Its a way of taking advantage of the different pre-programmed beat sequences that come with Boom and being able to play those same beat patterns in any other drum instrument or sample player (ie Structure or Reason's Redrum or Kong). So, if you really like a particular beat pattern in Boom, but none of the built in samples, use the MIDI file Russ & Co created to play the exact beat in whatever drum VI or sampler you wish. However, its just Kick and Snare for all the MIDI files. They had said they were going to add ALL the kit parts...but if they've done that, I have not seen it.
