Default Logic Performance

Anyone have any idea what kind of track count I would be able to get with a g4 867 and a standard IDE IBM Deskstar with Logic Platinum?

Lots of people are claiming 40-50 tracks.

I have a mac g4 400, 768 ram and I recently got 42 tracks. I dont know how much further I could have gone, thats all I needed for that song. I usually dont need that much but this tune had some major vocal stacking. Its great to have that many tracks when you need them.
I am loving Logic Audio!!!!!

Using which audio interface? Logic+001 is limited to 64 tracks...

i am using logic with the digi 001 and in fact if you use universal track mode in logic you are right it is 64 tracks but those
are STEREO tracks without universal mode it is 64 mono tracks my count is based on one stereo track=two mono tracks ! because in the same way a stereo track takes twice as much disc space as one mono track it also takes twice as much cpu.my exact count was 24 stereo tracks and the rest mono.please keep in mind that along with those plugins were 2 waves trueverbs plus assortted comps and eq's some vst some logic and the others waves.what it really comes down to is i love my 867 and its great to use pt le without the worry of cpu shortage.

Oh OK, well you can't really count like that cuz it's not the same. A stereo track takes actually 1.5 the space of a mono track on a hard drive, and as far as the CPU goes well it's almost the same for the CPU between a stereo or a mono track. Anyhow, the limit is 64 stereo or mono tracks, so you could never have more than 64 tracks, whatever they are.

Not quite sure that's true. Forgive me if I'm wrong , but that would suggest compression of some sort.

AIFF/WAV doesn't compress anything (that I'm aware of). 1 min silence is the same as 1 min at full volume.

Then, say you were to record a band for a minute by placing a stereo microphone into the room, the two sides that make up the stereo signal will each require their own 60secs worth of recording time.

This would equate to double the amount of space then say the band had been recorded using a single mono microphone.
