Default Studio Monitors

Hello everyone,

I use Pro Tools 11 In my win 10 Toshiba i7, 12gb Ram laptop. About to purchase one of these affordable monitors deals. Although they may not sound as good as the expensive models. Which do you suggest from these two:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...Y&A=details&Q=

Or

http://www.buya.com/Item/Details/JBL...FcaPHwodYWwOEw

If you've got an idea of some good deals under 70-90 USD, I'd be appreciate it if you share.

ummmm .. the JBL's - One Speaker and a Sub - Really not what you need !!! well, if this is true than forget this one, not stereo .. that is one mono speaker and one mono subwoofer ...

the B&H speakers are USB ... You Did Not Say What Audio Interface you Use with Pro Tools .. ??? that will help make your decision - maybe you are not recording but just mixing so no Input is needed - Such Using USB Speakers ... just thinking out loud ..

cheers john

John, yeah I use the M-audio fast track interface. My bad, are you saying the USB choice is the way to go? Many thanks.

No a USB anything is the last thing you want. You need monitors that can connect directly to the outputs on your interface.

At this price range you are likely wasting your time. I would put that money towards a pair of headphones instead.

Darryl is correct as he usually is.
(I'm sure he's been incorrect before, but I can't find it)

Buying terrible speakers is a bad idea.
Having said that, if you realize that you will not be doing critical monitoring, these are OK, especially if you want more than one person to listen at once:

http://www.amazon.com/Mackie-CR-CR3-...3999184&sr=1-1

All you need is a pair of RCA cables and a pair of speaker cables and you are good to go. (The amp is built into one speaker.)

Good luck.

M Audio 5s or 8s. they have issues but they are workable
Then save enough to buy a new car and buy a pair of Focal SM9s

If you need/want speakers, buy speakers. I'd recommend NOT getting used to working with headphones for critical listening/mixing. Not as your primary device anyway.

If you are serious about recording, you need better speakers, and you need a better interface. And as said, you can't use USB speakers WITH any interface on a Windows PC(the speakers NEED to connect to the interface). My 'best cheap" speakers are the JBL LSR305's. Shop used, or build a relationship with the local GC Pro person and you should be able to buy a set for around $200(and they kill everything else in that price range). As for a better interface, I would shop for a used Mbox 3rd gen.

Last thing to keep in mind, no matter what speakers you buy, they will be affected(for better or for worse) by the room you place them in(and where in the room). This is a lesson we all learn the hard way(right now I am dealing with a $3000 set of Genelecs that sound bad in my new control room) More bass traps...more diffusers....MORE POWER, Scotty!!
