Hi, welcome to the community.

First of all, this is wrong thread for your question. Second, you're trying to use an unsupported software configuration (a.k.a. you need to upgrade PT or use older computer)

Many thanks to everyone for your contributions. Sorry for a slow response (hospital stuff).

Bob is right about the broadcaster sector and their PC's, hence the biggest customer. (Media composer especially).

I understand the preferences thing and yes, mine is obviously Mac. For any asking about my setup it is all listed in the biog as requested on signup.

I'm having a meeting on Monday with someone from Avid and our management. All in our audio department are pushing for Mac's, so I'll be presenting this thread as a point for discussion.

I'm really interested in the Win 8/10 discussion, and this may have to be the middle ground. I'm still not sure what the differences are but I'll try to find out.

Currently the only argument against Mac is that the trashcan is an 'unsupported configuration'. That doesn't sound right to me as many, if not most, studios seem to be running them now.

Thanks again everyone and I'll update with any resolution/notable points.

Cheers!

Just as the i7 CPU is also unsupported, but it appears to be adequately functional. I believe "supported' just means it's been used internally as a test platform.

Thanks Tom, I think you're probably right. I'm never sure what makes the criteria for 'supported'. I remember when we had our training day for the S6 - the Avid guy seemed surprised to see the PC's. When we asked how many PC setups they had at HQ, he said "....errrr, none I think!"

If they want to stay PC, have them get their computers from guitardom. Guaranteed to work with Pro Tools and fully supported. BTW, he's the forum member that supplied Trasher. A must have utility as is Pete Gate's similar utility for Mac.

I bet they put more programming time into Mac OS updates....

Mac OSX will change every year...and sometimes drastically. (HFS to whatever they use now).

I like MAC OS's but the annual OS update is nonsense, and I couldn't justify the money/performance so I went with WIN10.....it's been A really nice experience, auto updates are turned off.

Win8 was so bad, Metro was a horrible GUI.

Win10 is much more streamlined and the GUI is simple and useful.

You use what you like, which is what I did until I couldn't stomach the hardware and wanted something more modern.
