Default NTFS errors

Hi everyone,
I've searched the DUC and I can't seem to find an answer to my little dilemma.
Every time I try to run pro-tools 8 M powered essential, I get this error message:

"Warning:
Loss of Plug-In authorization keys may occur.

This system contains one or more drives formatted with NTFS, which have volume names longer than 11 charcters. This combination is know to crrupt some InterLok Plug-In authorizations. If you know which drives are authorized and they are not configured this way, of if you have no interlok protected plug-ins, then you may continue. In order to rememdy this issue before corruption can occur click "Yes" to quit pro tools and rename NTFS volumes to names that are 11 characters or less. Next re-launch Pro-Tools and this dialog should not appear."

These are my system details:
compaq presario FJ379AA-ABA SR5518F
Intel Premium Dual CPU EZ180 @ 2.00 GHZ
speed: 2.0 GHz
Cores per processor: 2 units

mainboard: MSI boston
Bios: Phoenix tech. LTD 5.10 06/11/2008
multi processor support: no
Multi processor advanced PIC (APIC) yes
Total memory: 3.25 GB DIMM DDR2

Chipset
Model: HP p35/G33/G31 processor to I/O controller
Front Side bus speed: 4X200MHz
TOtal Memory: 4GB DIMM DDR2
Channels: 2
Memory: Bus Speed 2x400MHz

oh yeah, the interface I'm using is the M-Audio USB fasttrack. I've already downloaded and installed the latest drivers, I've reinstalled Pro-Tools under a completely new account that I made the authorized user and I'm still running into this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

But, try limiting your drive names to less than eleven characters. Right click on the drives in "My Computer" and re-name them with nice short names. (spaces count)

Drivers? Not Drivers, drive volumes. You have to change the name of the disk drive volumes on your system longer than 11 characters.

The error message is telling you in fairly plain English what the issue is.

Tom in the post above told you *exactly* what to do "Right click on the drives in "My Computer" and re-name them with nice short names. (spaces count)"

What specifically are you not following in those instructions?

Sorry, I'm not very computer literate.

I'm under the impression that I have to locate specific 'drives' and rename them?

When we speak of drive we are talking about Hard disks, or SSD's which can contain or not partitions. You can view them by opening your "My computer" in the start menu under xp (or if the icon is on the desktop) or the "computer" tab in the start menu under windows 7.

Now once you have that tab open and you see all your hard drives, you can right click on any of them and rename them with a short name that including the spaces will be under 11 characters.

Here's a possible set up
Os (C:) <- this is where your windows and pro tools should be installed
Audio (F:) <- this is where your audio files should be installed, and it is a completely different physical HDD/SDD than your os drive
Samples (H:) <- this is where your Vi should be installed and again a completely different physical HDD/SDD than your os drive.
Samples 2 (G:)

You can rename them to what ever will speed up the process of recognizing what's on them to you, as long as when you count all the letters and the spaces it is under 11 characters. As for the drive letters, which you should not mess around with unless you are a reasonable advanced users, the only truly important one is C: and should not be changed ( I doubt you could anyways). If you have more than one boot session (meaning that you have two windows, or 1 windows 1 osx, etc) you might see that the letters of the drive changes when you are in one OS or the other, that's normal.
