Default Intel Core i5 vs. i7

Might seem a question with an obvious answer, but I'm considering upgrading my Mac Mini (Late 2012) to the 2018 i5 or i7 and PT 2019.6

Any recommendations on whether to go with i7 or is i5 sufficient?

My inclination is more cores and cache is better, but we all know it doesn't always work out that way, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Jeremy

i7 is obviously better, but I do run a commercial studio everyday on an i5 6600K.
It runs smooth and solid when tracking 17 musicians and doing 7 monitor mixes plus the studio mix at a buffer of 64 samples. no hickups.
I do also mix large (+80 tracks) sessions with plenty of plugins, at a 256 buffer at most.

In general, faster processor speed works better with PT than more cores.

As someone who recently upgraded to the 2018 Mac Mini... absolutely go the i7, pretty decent little rig and great "bang for buck".

Budget constraints aside, the i7 is a better choice for Pro Tools.

I understand the difference is that i5 doesn't have hyperthreading.

Most notable difference. There are others, so let's just say PT and i7 go well together
