Default Alesis D4 with Pro Tools

I've been using some drum pads triggered through a D4 and have been having
good luck, but I have noticed that all the MIDI notes in my track are tiny circles with X's in them, which makes it pretty hard to edit after the fact.
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere in the D4?
I am using the D4 to trigger sounds in my Reason Redrum. If I use any keyboard or Trigger Finger in the same track/scenario, the MIDI notes come out normal.
Any ideas?

Just a note to mention that I did a similar setup on another system last night, using the V Drums TD8 to trigger EZ Drummer, and when the notes are played into PT, they are normal size, and some even longer. Still can't figure out why the D4 and even DM5 put these strange, short notes in my track? What could be the difference between how the TD8 spits out notes as compared to the Alesis modules?? The other differences were that I used the TD8 into a 002 MIDI in, as compared to my Alesis unit going into a MIDI Sport 2x2 via USB to my G5.

This is essentially a zero duration MIDI event. You need to check to see if note duration is adjustable in the Alesis, but it probably is not. But in Pro Tools you can change the duration of any note or the entire track by selecting all and bringing up the Change Duration page of the MIDI Operations Window. I usually set drum/percussion events to 64th notes, that seems to work best with most of my (Roland) modules, but some kits will not sustain a cymbal after a note off message, so you need to use your best judgment and your ears. <g> Jon E.

I did notice that in the TD8, the notes came out as if they were played by a keyboard, which seem normal. You are probably correct that the note duration is not adjustable in the Alesis. I had been adjusting them by selecting all and using the trim tool, but I like your idea better. Is there a way to do this as the notes are being played, or does it have to be done after?

When I look in the MIDI note duration window, all I see are numbers and not note lengths How can I set these to 1/8th or 16th notes? Is this because the tracks are in Tick mode? I must be missing something here....

You're not missing anything. In no time tick values will become second nature:

Note Value Normal Dotted Triplet
1/2 note 1920 2880 1280
1/4 note 960 1440 640
1/8 note 480 720 320
1/16 note 240 360 160
1/32 note 120 180 80
1/64 note 60 90 40

I couldn't type anything larger than 960 in the box?
Am I doing this wrong or in the wrong place?

960 ticks = a quarter note, go to the previous box and type "1"
