Pro Tools 7.3 won't let external drive become record drive
I recently bough a late 2012 model iMac running OSX 10.8.4 and i have an old copy of Pro Tools 7.3 from a good few years ago. I have an mBox 2 mini interface and a G-Drive 250gb external drive (usb 2.0). I can install Pro Tools no bother (although i did have to get new ilok authorisation software and new mbox drivers) but whenever i go to open a new session Pro Tools won't let me change any of my drives, including the internal 1 tb mac drive into record drives. They are all fixed as transfer drives.
I've tried reformatting my external drive to all available options(journalled, case sensitive and stuff like that) but to no avail. Is it as simple as my software isn't compatible with the new os on the iMac or is there something I'm missing. Any help would be great. Cheers |

Re: Pro Tools 7.3 won't let external drive become record drive
if you use Get Info on the external drives (command+i) what are the drives permissions and do you have Ignore Permission checked?

Re: Pro Tools 7.3 won't let external drive become record drive
are you on a mac? is the drive formatted NTFS (drive will be read only)? are you on a windows machine? how is the drive formatted? (drive attributes determine write-ability)

Re: Pro Tools 7.3 won't let external drive become record drive
As pointed out, trying to write to NTFS volumes is a common mistake, so check that. It should be HFS+ (aka Mac OS Extended (Journaled)).
I'd be pretty surprised if 7.3 actually installs and runs OK on Mountain Lion. Will it record to your boot/system drive - just as a test try it. If not you might want to give up now. The last OS X version to officially support Pro Tools 7.2 was Tiger (10.3). Official support is not he same as "will run", but you really are stretching it here. |

Re: Pro Tools 7.3 won't let external drive become record drive
I remember some issues like this cropping up back in the 7.3-7.4 days that only seemed to be resolved by formatting the drive.
