Default How do you quantize only the 16th notes?

I have this midi drum performance that I wanna mess around with. I had a drummer come in a play some stuff on his Roland digital drum kit. The kick is playing a straight 16th note ever so often and I wanna change the groove of that straight 16th note to swing 100% to give it alittle more groove.

Everytime I quantize to get the 16th notes to swing at 100%, I end up locking all the notes to grid. I wanna keep the natural performance, but I just wanna swing the 16th notes @ 100%. The drummer played the snare parts a little late, and I love the way it grooves. I just wanna fix up the random 16th notes played on the kick, snare and toms.

Any thoughts on how I can make this happen. It's gotta be something small that I'm missing in the quantize window.

Thanks!!

Nick

Grab them in piano scroll and just quantize those selected? Or grab them, put them onto a seperate midi track and quantize them?

So there is no way to tell the Quantize to just target the 16th notes?

Thanks!

Nick, I'd separate those 1/16th notes to a respective track and apply Track-Based RTP Quantize - Swing. For more 'detail' use the Real-Time Properties Window.

Is there a way to automaticaly selet the 16th notes or do I have to go through and grab each and every one?

Thanks for the help, big time!

Like he said earlier.
Between the edit view fader and the midi track you will see a vertical row of what looks like piano keys.
Find the note "row" were the hihat resides. Then click that key with you cursor it will highlight the whole row of midi notes the hit alt(option) + "0" and your quantize window will pop up and "swing" away.

Cheers

I totaly understand how to grab a single row of notes on a midi track. Thats not what I'm looking for.

What I'm trying to do it ONLYy quantize 16th notes, and quantize them with a swing. I want to leave all the other notes exactly as they were played. There were no 16th notes played on the highhat, only 8th notes. The 16th notes were played on the kick mostly, with an occasional of beat snare hit as well.

Some people in the previous posts have said that you can't just quantize 16th notes. The suggestion was made to seperate all the 16 notes from the rest of the performance. If this is the best way to go about it, then whats the most efficent way to strip out all the 16 notes to another midi track?

Or do I have to go through and select each one, then copy them to anther track?

Nope that clears it up a little. Thanks!

Nick

I see what your saying.

I think the only way to just effect the 16th notes is manually.
If i had to do it i would make a dup track just below it and copy the whole midi track to it. Then go through and delete everything that wasnt a 16th,(it would mbe much faster than copy it to a new track) then when done quantize every thing thats left.

Thanks so much! I was really hoping there was a way I could do it automatically!

I'll start using your suggested method!

I do appreciate it!
