I think that the general consensus here is that half like Dark and half like light.

Digidesign, would it really be so much to ask for to be able to tweak the looks of Pro Tools, just a little bit.

Dont forget - most of us sit in front of Pro Tools more than 10 hours per day. So, the look of it is VERY important. If two DAWs had about the same features to offer, I would personally choose the one offering me the better look and customization.

Here is what I know for a fact is NOT hard to implement:

1) Choice of Basic Font for Protools
A - Aliasing
B - Non Aliasing

2) Multiple Graphic choices for BackGrounds, etc

Digi, you build one of the most advanced software on the planet. It cant be too difficult to implement a little Theming into your application. Especially, now that most of your clients are craving for it.

Please, listen to this thread - as it is a whole lot more important that you think it is

I think the overall new "look" is great but the contrast is terrible!

Digi, we need contrast options here please!

I really like the new gui. One complaint it that I can't see the trim, yellow line, at all. I don't have black borders and it's not light or dark enough. Also, I can't see the selector tool in the edit window for the same reasons. Other then that, it all looking great.

i'm only thinking that also.. they worked hard on that it should be easier to implement a parameter for users to choose their own brightness. I'm sure it's nothing to do now...

Glance at this PT8 screen shot, and pick out which audio region is selected

http://tr.im/pt8shade

Difficult, huh? Now try the same thing with PT7;

http://tr.im/pt7shade

A little easier?
'nuff said.

Hmmm...yeah....I don't even have PT8 yet...but that don't look good!

That would get me annoyed after a while...I much prefer the obvious selection highlights of pt7...

mayhap there's an update in the works to give us the option?

Dont know of anyone coloring all his regions black. But in case someone would be foolish enough to do so - then PT 8 is NOT very good at distinguishing colors of selected regions

Hello. I have to chime in here with the section of users NOT liking the new GUI. I have never liked the darker GUI's from software like Nuendo, Samplitude, Logic, Live, etc. I actually always liked the brighter Pro Tools GUI, much easier on my eyes. And I disagree that the new GUI it's easier on the eyes, this darker GUI has always been harder on my eyes for any extended period. As someone previously mentioned, different people have different eyes and we don't all have the same reactions. I definitely do NOT like this change at all. I agree that the best possible solution is to give the user the ability to use their own 'skin' the way Reaper does. At the very least give us the ability to get back to the brighter GUI with brightness, contrast and saturation controls.

I will say however that as much as I dislike the change, and I dislike it quite a bit, it's actually not that big a deal to me. I'll learn to live with it I suppose. More options would be ideal.

I only cut in black and white, have for years. I found my eye strain level when way down turning off colored regions. I still use colored tracks, but black is white is the BOMB! :)

So this is disturbing. I'm sure I'll still go to PT8, but that's pretty drastic, and yeah, as everyone else is pointing out, why not LET US CHOOSE colors for the background?
