Default Re: New "Mac Studio" from Apple

Ok so some real world tests!

My trusty 5,1 Mac Pro 12 Core 3.46GHz 96gb RAM, the studio I'm currently contracted at's 7,1 Mac Pro 16 Core 3.2 GHz 160gig RAM (!!!), my new Mac Studio 10 Core 64gig RAM.

Using a fairly large Netflix 5.1 series I've mixed.

1:25min of dialogue. Lots of clips and fades with PT iZotope RX Dialogue Isolate (V9 new algorithm & "Best")
5,1 Mac Pro 12 Core - 5:07min
7,1 Mac Pro 16 Core - 2:41min
Mac Studio 10 Core - 2:39min

1:25min of dialogue. Lots of clips and fades with PT iZotope RX De-Crackle (high Quality)
5,1 Mac Pro 12 Core - 1:20min
7,1 Mac Pro 16 Core - 59sec
Mac Studio 10 Core - 43sec

Offline Bounce - Full mix 5.1, Mix Minus VO 5.1, Full mix 2.0, Mix Minus VO 2.0
5,1 Mac Pro 12 Core - 4:56min (x2)
7,1 Mac Pro 16 Core - 3:03min (x3)
Mac Studio 10 Core - 1:36min (x6.2)

So as you can see the Mac studio running the newest version of PT under rosetta is twice as fast as my old machine for iZotope but about 3 times as fast at rendering. Happy days. It's slightly faster than the 7,1 cMP at RX but about twice as fast at rendering.

I can't wait for PT to go native on Apple Silicone!

Thanks for the update! May I ask if you are experiencing any graphical glitches on the apple silicon?

My buddy has the original M1 mac mini and says he gets black bars sometimes as well as the meters will be gone occasionally when switching back and forth from mix to edit window. Takes a couple switches back and forth to get them to re-appear.

One other test I tried a few days ago was the Nexflix Sol Levante session. It was a total no-go. While I was able to load the session, I received an Out of CPU error message consistently immediately after I hit "play." This was true no matter what buffer setting I tried using.

That's unexpected. I was able to get that session rolling without issue on an ancient (by computer's standards) 12-core trashcan. I'd love to know precisely what was derailing the train for your session, because no matter how you look at it your Studio Max has way more power than mine.

I'd be curious to know how the Sol Levante session would run if ONLY the plugins used in that session were in the plugins folder. All others temporarily moved to the unused folder (PT requires some to operate, so I suppose all of them can't be moved, but 3rd party plugs could). With all these reports, varying to such wide degrees, I feel as though that has something to do with it. Something, beyond ProTools, is causing the discrepancies, and I don't see Native support alone being the savior that we're counting on.

I agree with the first part Eric.

Same thing happens with the built-in soundcard as the playback device?
I do remember this happening when I tried that session. I closed and reopened the session and it did play fine after that. It was weird thought because I too didn't have any issues playing it on my older 2010 Mac Pro before testing the Mac Studio.
