Default help with 002/PTLE 7.4 upgrade

Hi all

I have just upgraded from 001 to 002, and PTLE 6.4 to 7.4. (I had happily been using the 001/PT6.4 for over 2 years.)

The Install/upgrade went ok, although the PC did have some some trouble finding the hardware. Now I find that on reboot, everything works fine, but if I exit PT 7.4 I cannot restart it. It says it cannot find the hardware and I have to reboot.

I have a new p35C gigabyte dual core motherboard with 2 firewire ports. One port is plugged into an external firewire 500GB hard-drive (drive letter is I:) and the other is plugged into the 002. They are on separate firewire cables, which as far as I know should work fine. If I restart PT 7.4 most times it says cannot find hardware AND the I: drive disappears. Other times it just doesnt come up on the screen - I can see it in processes in Task Manager but is using only 22MB memory instead of the usual 120MB. Seems that there is some kind of confusion between the firewire ports ?

I'd be the first to admit that I may have missed something fundamental but if anyone can help out I would very much appreciate some advice. Thanks very much in advance.

I will do SI Sandra config extract as soon as I can in case it is needed for this thread.

I'm not convinced that your mobo is compatible but, some things to try anyway: install/run the dual core hotfix and update the PACE drivers. Also, try running one firewire cable to the hard drive and run from there to the 002(I don't know why it would matter but it won't hurt to try it).

Oh and one more thing: I dont think I can try your second suggestion (daisychaining) as the Maxtor external 1394 500GB drive case only has one 400mb/s firewire port.

It does however have 2 X 800mb/s ports - I could daisy chain if I upgrade the pc to 800 mb/s but then I believe the 002R doesnt have 800mb/s capability ?
