How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
Hey all you DUC folk,
I've read and learned a lot here This is my first post. I'm not sure if this is even the right place for it but ... Yesterday I finally purchased a PT Digi 002 Rack. I've been wanting PT since the Digi001 came out, so I'm very happy about it and everything seems to be working perfectly My question is this: I have some CD's which contain sessions recorded a couple of years ago on a friends Mac. He had OS9 with a Digi001 setup. I think he was running PTLE 5.2. As far as I can tell the CD's are OK because my CD drive can mount them and Windows can see the folders and files on them. I'm not too worried about the session data but I would love to import the audio to my brand spankin new PT. Problem is that the audio files have no file extensions and neither Windows, Pro Tools or Linux recognise the file format. I don't think that the sessions were saved with the enforce compatibility option, if it even existed at that time. I have tried saving a file to disk and adding the *.aif and *.wav (which was a long shot!) extensions but this does not help. Does anyone out there know how I might go about this? Is it even possible? Have there been any major changes to the file formats since PTLE 5.2 which would affect this? Thanks in advance gonzo

Re: How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
If you just want the audio - use my free utility sdTwoWav.

Re: How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
Thanks heaps, Rail. I have a fair few files to convert (7 CD's worth) so I grabbed GUI2Wav. Works beautifully and I'm listening to one of the files thru WinAmp even as I type. Awesome little utility, mate. Thanks a million Cheers, gonzo

That's not mine.. mine is available at http://www.railjonrogut.com/sdTwoWav.htm
If you have MacDrive installed.. it should detect the file settings for you. Rail

Re: How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
Doh! Just went to Digi support downloads and there was a file with almost the same name as yours ... [EDIT- Can't believe I didn't just follow the link in your sig ]
Got the right one now, and it is a better featured utility. Got the demo of MacDrive too. Might have to buy that I reckon Thanks heaps Rail Now ... sorry about the endless questions, but ... what if I did want to try and recover the session info? Is that possible? cheers gonzo

Re: How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
i think you can do that with 6.7, but I have a 001 and therefore need to get something better.
Thanks for giving me just another excuse to do so |

Re: How To Recover Audio Off Old Mac CD
Correct, 6.7 would allow you to convert the session.. otherwise you'd have to open it on a Mac and save it as Mac/PC compatible.
