Default Legacy Audio Interface And Video Slave Driver Units...

hi everyone, how's it goin'??

i recently picked up a truckload of electronic and computer equipment and among the stuff were:

1 rack unit labeled Session 8
1 Rack Unit labeled R1 Remoter Controller
8 rack units labeled Audio Interface
12 rack units labeled Video Slave Driver

I guess my first question is, where can i find manuals for these units?

i checked the digidesign website but i can't find any that match these units.

and also, are these units software dependent?

are they mac dependent? or can i use a pc?

thanks in advance.

All of this stuff is ancient.

Video slave driver converts a video reference signal(blackburst) to word clock and digidesign slave clock. It is not software dependant.

Not sure on a 1U session 8, I thought that session 8 was a 3U box. Session 8 requires a card and software to be useful, it's close to 15 years old if I remember right. I think it runs on windows 95 or something like that, and/or probably on mac os 7 or 8.

The R1 controller is also from the session 8 era. If you have a rack unit, there is also a console looking thing with faders and knobs that should go with it.

The audio interfaces are most likely 442s. They are at least 15 years old and would only work with a nubus mac card of some type. I think that there was also a whiteface version that worked with older AVID video editing systems.

I know a guy running a session 8/R1 setup. Let me shoot him an email and see if he can help you out. I have a feeling the manuals for these are printed, not pdfs.

I don't know enough about these to know what else you're going to need, but I'm pretty sure you're screwed without the card/cable that goes to the computer.

thanks much...

these units came with a dozen or so assorted macs and about 50 avid full height external hard drive units. also a couple of boxes of assorted nubus cards and cables..

i may actually have everything i need to set it up and at least test the units out, but i've been in the pc world since its birth and know almost nothing about the mac stuff...

John is correct, most of these are so old that the manuals were never available in electronic form, only printed.

You might be able to get some informaion here:

Okay I got a hold of him... He definitely has the printed manual for session 8 for PC, and thinks that it might also include documentation for mac. Send your email address to jh4music [at] mac [dot] com and I will forward it to him.

I might have scanned manuals.

I'll try to remember to look tonight.

I know for sure I have session 8 installers (Most likely for Mac), and might even have a OS8 disk if I grabbed the one from John before he fled MN :)

Not sure if it's cool to distribute Session 8? Does aVigi even sell it anymore? So would they care?

Ha... I even found a PT Free installer :) crazy. Box of ancient stuff still lingering.
