No worries. It was well over 100 degrees here yesterday so I had fans going all over the house, I didn't even hear it.

with melodyne editor opening, i really have more flexibility then i could have ever thought possible, in a 10 year-old system - reason and ableton are opening as well - i'll try reaper over the next day or two

I was going to use my mix rig for the purpose of just tracking - but with the host of 3rd party plugs that have opened in 6.4.1 - i must say that i am starting to think that i may be able to perform a good chunk-o-mixing in this beast as well - very very pleased to have the systen run on a quad core - i really didn't expect this to work at all
I am seriously interested in a few things about this setup. One of the reasons I stayed away from a PC host computer for mix systems was a lot of the reason I use my mix system is for some of the older TDM plugins, which do not have PC versions.

But I just ran into a problem that maybe this can solve. What version of quicktime are you able to run on the PC? So many of these new codecs/video formats simply don't load on OS10.3.9, and mix simply won't work with any newer OS or quicktime versions.

What's the difference between the Mix and the Mix Plus 3 system?

More cards.

Mix = 1 mix core.
Mix+ = Mix core and mix farm
Mix3 = Mix core and 2 mix farms

That's the way they were sold at retail, but you could of course use mix cores in place of mix farms to achieve the same amount of DSP too.

The biggest system you can build would be 7 mix cards + 3 DSP farm cards. It will most likely run out of TDM time slots before you can fill all of the DSP chips up with plugins though.

Thanks John.
Don't you hate that name game Digi's been doing?
It's been over a decade and I still forget the Digi terminology again and again.

hi guys - i'm at a point of discovery for the nest few weeks - i bought way more then i'll require, for the purpose of trying out a few mix configurations prior to deciding upon my eventual system - but please rest assured you guys have first dibbs on what isn't part of my final system

(i wanted to test everything as well so that i know if i'm sending you something that it is working)

I'm in the middle of prepping for a shoot right now, so my focus is 'bad' at best...ha ha...i do get my life back in a few weeks though ...and can update you guys then

cheers

Dibs on the ADAT bridge 24

I'm not in a huge hurry, I have a few jobs I need to finish before I have the cashflow anyways.

sorry John - i missed your question from a day or so ago - i'm running QT 7.5.5 pro on the quad dell 390

on the same rig i have avid media composer 3, i think i probably just went with the suggested version of QT to work with the version of media composer that i have (it's a few years old)

i'm very pleased with the way the mix system is behaving....ha ha, i can't wait for another 10 years to pass...then i'll update to PT HD (for pennies on the dollar)

damn, these mix systems are value for the buck - i'm blown away at what you can get on ebay today - useful tools for pennies

all good

cheers

Wow.

That would totally solve my problem. I believe I need QT 7.5.5 or later to work with video that is encoded in prores 422(LT).

It would be really nice to just import this straight into pro tools as is.

I have a workaround for now but that is definitely something seriously worth looking at.
