computer shuts down randomly! Help please
My computer runs all my apps just fine but will shut down and restart itself randomly. I have an Athlon XP2100 and I know it runs a little hot. Could I need to install another cooling fan for it or could this be another problem? Thanx in advance. You guys have been really helpful getting my system up and running!!

Re: computer shuts down randomly! Help please
Might be. Overheating is a common cause of this... see "Spontaneous Reboots" in a search. You'll get lots of (too many maybe) ideas...
For some of us (me for example) it was cured by a higher quality Power Supply. That remedy has not solved the problem for some of us. |

Re: computer shuts down randomly! Help please
Some motherboards can tell when a processor gets too hot and will automatically shut down as a safety precaution. This is a likely cause. Random reboots can also be the result of a memory conflict, where two process on the computer try to utilize the same chunk of memory. If this is the case you may have to play around with device manager to straighten it out.
