Atmos monitoring in 7.1.2 via PT 2023.12?
With the built inAtmos renderer starting in PT 2023.12, it doesn't seem like 7.1.2 monitoring is a supported format. I know it's a non-standard layout, but you were able to make a custom room layout in the standalone Dolby renderer. This technique was even featured in an Avid article a few months ago talking about atmos monitoring with the Avid Carbon interface.
https://www.avid.com/resource-center...arbon-surround Reason is I'd like to setup my current small room as a pre-dub studio. 7.1.2 is quite feasible. Adding the two extra height speakers is a bit of a PITA though. I know I can monitor in 5.1.2, but that seems a bit silly to disregard the highly usable side speakers just to get the heights in a x.x.2 configuration. I could monitor in 7.1.4 out of PT and sum the front and rear height channels on each side to achieve 7.1.2, but that doesn't seem to match how Dolby crates the height channels within the renderer itself when outputting to a x.x.2 format. I know I can still use the old renderer, but the new one built in to PT is just so handy. Any advice or ways to force the PT renderer to output 7.1.2? Or am I SOL for the moment? Thanks! |

Re: Atmos monitoring in 7.1.2 via PT 2023.12?
You need to create a 7.1.2 monitor bus in your i/o settings, then it will appear as an option in the Render monitoring selection.

Re: Atmos monitoring in 7.1.2 via PT 2023.12?
Thank you. Unfortunately, doing this only allows for 7.1 monitoring. I've since confirmed with Dolby that 7.1.2 monitoring is not currently available in the Pro Tools renderer. Maybe they'll integrate it at a later point. It's still possible in the standalone renderer by making a custom layout. I was just posting hoping there was some sort of hack to get around this, but it seems there isn't. Thanks anyway!

Same issue here. Used to use this config in the standalone renderer with no issues. Odd choice.

Protools 2024.3 allows this.

Yeah, I was going to chime in yesterday about this with the new version, but was tied up on a long Sunday work day! There are many advantages and improvements with the new update. Glad someone was able to confirm this!
I have been in Stereo mode for the last few weeks. G
