Re: Drums..electronic that is..
I'm using the Alesis DM-Pro kit. Very cool once you reprogram it. Everything's worked well except for two areas I haven't been able to figure out: When using it with the Virus plug-in, not all the notes I perform are triggering. Very frustrating, but since you're a 001 user, this probably isn't an issue. The other thing is when I'm changing patches while Pro Tools is running, the DM-Pro freezes up. Very VERY frustrating. What's the benefit of using MIDI if you can't change the patches, you know? May be an OMS issue. I have to admit to being something of a midiot though.... So I've gone back to recording loops as audio until I can get someone to help with these problems.
Having said that, editing the drum parts is very straightforward and setup was a breeze. The quantizing takes some trial and error, but that's to be expected. |

Drums..electronic that is..
Is anyone using electronic drums (i.e. Yamaha DTXpress, etc.) to transmit MIDI drum parts into Digi001?? I'm not a drummer but would like to 'pound out' and sequence in the drum parts.
Wondering if anyone is doing this OR has even recorded someone using an electronic kit? YGR Matt

Re: Drums..electronic that is..
You're right. It may takes 15 minutes but it worths it since I have more computer resources for editing/recording other parts.
It's also faster after that to record those midi tracks as audio tracks (TD-5 only has L/R outputs) since I can solo only the tracks I want to transfer in PT instead of muting them on the sound module. ------------------ Donald Robidoux President Design Relationnel inc. www3.sympatico.ca/design.relationnel |

Re: Drums..electronic that is..
I'm using a Roland TD-5K (sound module + pads) and a real drummer.
I record the midi on one track. I then split each drum piece on different tracks (kick, snare, hi-hat, crash, ride, tom1, tom2, floor) to build a rough mix. I then record all the midi tracks as audio tracks for mixing. I achieved good results that way. CPU/disk resources are saved 'til the final mixing so I can record with the smallest buffer and avoid latency as much as possible. ------------------ Donald Robidoux President Design Relationnel inc. www3.sympatico.ca/design.relationnel |

Re: Drums..electronic that is..
Donald,
When you say 'split each drum piece on different tracks' how exactly are you doing this? Selecting all hi-hat notes (for example), creating a new MIDI track, and then pasting? Thanks. |

Re: Drums..electronic that is..
I've used Roland TD10 recording MIDI track and then rerecording MIDI to audio splitting tracks - sounded great. Thanks to Roland!
