Default TC unwrap and HDn??

Hi All,
I'm an HD 4 Accel user. I own unwrap. Great plug and I don't think I can live without it as most tv is now in 5.1. I'm really thinking of going HD native and this is the only plug in I use that is TDM only. Unless I buy the powercore. So if I wrap this plug in, will the automation work with the TDM plug in? What I may just do is buy a powercore compact. I would then use the VST to RTAS wrapper to insert the plug in on my music tracks. OK to far so good. Then, I would need to take my mix to anther studio to layback the mix with clients. This studio has an HD 4 accel system an that will not change. So, Will the RTAS wrapped automation from unwrap translate to a TDM version of the plug in? Or is a RTAS version of this plug in going to become available?
Thanks.
Brandon

Hi Brandon

I too have Unwrap. TC seem shy of RTAS.
Another option would be to hold fire (where have we heard that before n he duc?) and get the new Soundfield plug which is rtas only and would therefore run happily on both systems.

I haven't tried the hardware box from which the plug is based, as I have unwrap - but the guys at at SKY swear it's fab.

Cheers

Can't help you on Unwrap but as a bigger question, I wonder what the position of the software companies are too TDM now? Will they bother porting to RTAS? I really like the Eventide stuff for sound design so I'll miss them and revibe the most if I go HD Native at home...

Have you checked out Waves UM225 and UM226? TDM and RTAS. And they are part of the bigger 360 Surround bundle.

+1 for the Soundfield. Much more recent algorithm compared to TC, which hasn't been updated for around 10 years.

Have tried several of my mixes on it at BVE (not ideal circumstances) and in private, and blown away both times. Mike, when was the plug-in version released, nothing on their site about it yet?

DTS' neural Upmix is also worth a look.

OK, just been Googling and answered all my own questions.

Quick little hijack of thread, but since Gil is answering here, I would like know if Avid is going to port their TDM only plug-ins to RTAS (think Revibe)?
I like UnWrap but also have a feeling that HD Native might be the way forward. But it would seem strange to suddenly drop all TDM plugins...

Greetings,

Thierry

Hi Gil,
I've used them extensively actually. I really think unwrap is better sounding in almost all or all situations. I did get really good results with UM225 upmixing audience's tho.
Best
