Can\'t record audio on external Lacie firewire driv
Hello!
I just recently bought an external Lacie 7200rpm firewire drive, and I'm trying to record audio to it using an Mbox and Pro Tools LE 6.4, but it is saying that the "session must be on an audio record volume." The drive says that it is a generic drive, and so I would presume that all types of media could be written to it. I recently installed Panther 10.3.5, and I've heard that there could be some external firewire drive "issues" with this version of Panther and PT 6.4. Is it possible that the Lacie drive is only for video files and everything else, but not audio? Also, is there any way that I can do something with the drive to make it audio compatible? I've tried using a few things in the "Disk Utility" with Panther, but nothing is changing. In the "Disk Utility", it does say that the format of the drive is an MS-DOS File System. I'm not sure if that means anything. Anyway, I could use a little bit of help. Any would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Can\'t record audio on external Lacie firewire driv
Format the drive "HFS+Extended" (something to that effect), and don't use the Silverlining software which came with the LaCie.

Re: Can\'t record audio on external Lacie firewire driv
Hello again,
When I try to erase the external drive and change the format, it comes up with an error saying that the disk could not be "unmounted". Does anyone know what that could possibly mean. Thanks. |

Re: Can\'t record audio on external Lacie firewire driv
Eureka!
I figured it out. I really don't know a whole lot about external firewire drives, and I wasn't understanding what the word "unmount" meant. I guess it pretty much just means eject. I ejected the drive, remounted it and formatted as Mac OSX Extended, and away I go! Excellent!! |
