The importance isn't the crap plugin... it's the fine tooth comb in the plight to for a stable system.

After going through all my plugins about 18 months ago, I found that Slate's stuff really added to CPU overload errors and weird CPU consumption, so I cancelled my subscription. DearVR Pro would randomly crash Pro Tools under certain automation and output configurations, which I flagged with PA and they have subsequently released a new version that fixes it. The facebook 360 stuff has caused me a whole lot of grief. But even after those big three, I went through and deleted all of the free or cheap plugins that just congregate in my plugin list but never get used. It probably reduced the plugins that I have installed on my system by about 40%.

Since then, I have probably had a dozen crashes in Pro Tools working across two systems. Most commonly, they occur when I close Pro Tools, and it crashes instead of quitting neatly. Yesterday I suddenly started having CPU overload errors in Pro Tools for the first time in a very long time despite the CPU meter being at 10%. It was the direct result of having installed and initiated Dehumanizer 2.

If you are having issues with stability, there really isn't any point in blaming Avid until you have actively pursued every other developer's piece of software that you are trying to use with Pro Tools as the potential cause. It was something that at least used to be taught right from the very beginning of using Pro Tools, along with trashing preferences, and setting up your I/O.
Great thanks for the info. I knew Plugins caused stability issues, I just didn't know the specific ones that were causing the issues. I'm sure as you mentioned that there are many, many more, but good to know the ones you listed.

Slate is notorious imo for sloppy performances in protools. Steven claims otherwise. But it's pretty common when you remove slate plugins the system performs 25 to 50% better.

I use slate so I had to run through hoops for a stable system. Max ram. Dual high spec graphics cards for multi monitors pcie chassis for HDx. Vepro for VI work. The whole gamut of system upgrade. Take slate out and a stock max pro 5 1 works... lol.

This is true, every time I use the VMS my computer gets slow like never. I have to freeze and commit if I want to use his mics.
