Does microsuede really reflect high frequencies?
we are upgrading our acoustics in our practice room at church and thought maybe microsuede from a fabric store would be good cause every acoustic panel company sells em so they should be fine.. I've been doing alot of research and i keep hearing that microsuede is not good at early reflection points because it reflects high frequencies is this correct?? why would these companies give this option if it does refect?
we've considered GOM but it is way over the church's budget and the priest does not like the appearance of Burlap. |

Re: Does microsuede really reflect high frequencies?
Fabric alone does not mean anything - it's what's behind the fabric. Not every acoustic company sells the stuff by itself but as part of a panel system. IOW - you get an assembled panel with the fabric which is a covering on it. You really have to look at what you want or more importantly need to do in your church's practice room. Do you want acoustic isolation to keep sound inside the room, do you need echo control, etc.
Here's some companies to look at: http://www.auralex.com/ http://www.realtraps.com/ http://www.primacoustic.com/ http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/ |

Re: Does microsuede really reflect high frequencies?
I've never tried monosuede
I know the Guildford is expensive but it's good to know were the top shelf is I have gotten fabric that was very similar in appearance to the Guildford from companies that do custom vehicle interiors as remnants looked good and was cheaper than new. It's worth looking at. Speaker Grill Cloth could be another option http://speakercity.com/Merchant2/mer...gory_Code=SCGC

Re: Does microsuede really reflect high frequencies?
I wouldn't worry about microsuede being an issue, there are quite a few acoustic treatment companies that use it. The rule of thumb is if you can easily blow through it is generally transparent acoustically. musicman691 had it right, it's the material behind it. If you are using OC 703 you are moving in the right direction.
