Is it still possible to upgrade 11 HD to 12 HD? Possible to transfer software only?

Friend of mine who I work with often has Pro Tools 11 HD. Specifically, a 10/11/10HD/11HD bundle license.

I told him about the HD features that have been rolled into "vanilla" PT12, and he has decided to sell his 11HD license and switch to vanilla. He does mostly minor editing and mixing, and apparently doesn't make use of the advanced automation functions.

Is it still possible to transfer HD licenses without hardware? If so, would the buyer then be able to upgrade to 12HD? An upgradable license would fetch him a better price, it probably wouldn't be worth selling if it can't be upgraded.

no - support plans are transferable - I moved to another country and I am not "Allowed" to even change on my country in my Avid account...

Jeffro, are you saying the software must be part of a NEW HD system, not part of a resale? If that is what is being said, please be direct instead of linking to another document.

Matt he could always just purchase a cheap TDM card.....and then transfer the HD software and hardware together

The buyer obviously knows that it's just to fulfill the Avid requirement of having hardware attached to a software transaction
