Default Quicktime 6.2 & iTunes 4 w/ PT 6.0.1 ?

Just a quick question to see if anyone in particular has updated their system to QT 6.2? I'm not really interested in buying any songs quite yet, but I'd like to be able to rip/encode to AAC. Do I really need to upgrade to iTunes 4 to do this, or can I just upgrade QT?
Can anyone who's done this recently shed some light on any issues that I'd need to know about, compatability w/ PT, etc...TIA...

hi,

important note : the digi core audio driver is NOT compatible with the new version of iTunes (4). If you install iTunes 4, it will not work if core audio driver is on your system.

good bye AAC and other modern stuff....

Thank you clouvel. But, what about using just QT 6.2 to work w/ AAC (i.e. rip/ encode)? Has anyone tried this yet?

iTunes 4 does work with the driver installed on your system (well it does on mine ayway), you just have to select built in audio controller in System Preferences.

But as far as using QT to rip or encode, I haven't tried that.

Powermac G4/Mac OSX 10.02.5/PTLE 6.0.1/iTunes 4/Quicktime 6.2...

Hey Guitates, Digidesign said their CoreAudio driver doesn't work with iTunes 4. The application locks up as soon as you hit play. You must still be using iTunes 3.
Regarding the other posts, you can encode to AAC since QuickTime 6 came out... but you can only do it if you have a QuickTime Pro 6 license.
But don't worry, you can install iTunes 4 and QT 6.2 and there won't be any problems regarding PT's stability.
Besides, it's faster (regarding ease of use) to use iTunes 4 than QuickTime Pro to encode to AAC.

Thanks!
All in all, I think I'd rather go w/ QT Pro, than to lose iTunes' functionality w/ the Digi Core Audio driver...

OK--I have the GREEN 4.0 iTunes, and I am not actually using coreaudio for output of iTunes...I am using the mac output, but they are both on the OS X drive...was my point...

Aaah, sorry then Guitates...
Anyways, iTunes 4 works with the updated driver, so now there's an end to this dilemma.

Default Re: Quicktime 6.2 & iTunes 4 w/ PT 6.0.1 ?

Thanks all....I thought I was losing my mind when iTunes 4 didn't work wth my mBox...

Worked fine on my laptop, but not with my main system so I went like the group said (before I read this) and switched it to AUDIO INTERNAL...

Any idea WHEN digi is going to update THEIR drivers? to allow this to work?

i like to think that when APPLE updates their system...DIGI will also update...

AND WHAT is up with the current CORE AUDIO DRIVERS? Why is it that DIGI CORE AUDIO DRIVERS can only ALLOW ONE application to PLAY AUDIO at a time? and when the 2nd APPLICATION tries to access the AUDIO it gives a INFO BOX warning of the error saying that the APPLICATION can't ACCESS the CORE AUDIO DRIVERS because they are already being used! SHUT DOWN the other application and try again...

I then have to shut down ALL applications and then RESTART the APP I wish to LISTEN too...

A real pain if I'm say in PROTOOLS and then wish to open FINAL CUT PRO...

Note: this works fine in OS9.2.2

And for instance I remember under a older version of OSX, I was able to use iPHOTO and iTUNES at the same time...NOW I get this message and can't use the apps...

Not even iTunes and TOAST....or iTunes and Internet Explorer...

this is a REAL PAIN as iTunes and iMovie and iPhoto are supposed to work with each other being OPEN...

But, as it is...DIGI's CORE AUDIO DRIVERS...suck...

anyone else having this problem?

So far I just go back to OS9...to work without problems...

But, iPhoto doesn't work in OS9...not to mention iTunes4....so it definitely looks like DIGI has more work cut out for them...

ProTools 6.01 is still acting like a BETA version in my opinion...

Anyone else been having these issues?
