Default Re: What to Purchase?-High School Music Teacher-Help!

Hey Kenny, thank you.

As for the computer itself you can buy both. These are 2012 i7 Quad MacBooks Pro with 16GB Ram. If these MacBooks are in good condition they should be Pro Tools-ready indeed and you should be able to use PT as it is supposed to.
There you can find all information about this model.
https://everymac.com/systems/apple/m...html#macspecs2

The only difference between these two offers is that the first one (for $999.99) comes with a 1TB SSD included whereas the second one seems to come with a 500GB HDD only.

I would recommend you to go with offer 1 just because with a 1TB SSD you will be able to record to your internal drive as well if necessary once.
They do not tell us anything about the speed of the 500GB HDD which makes me think they will use a 5400rpm standard Apple HDD which you may not use with Pro Tools. Neither for the OS drive nor for the recording drive.

Therefor the 1TB SSD will be worth the money.

By the way don't forget to activate Trim-support in your OS for your SSD as it will make it live longer and work better at the end of the day.

As for multiple headphones for your live sessions you may use something like that for example.

If you never will record more than four players at once you can get even more affordable units.

or find yourself other options

Just mind that the headphone amp should be of decent quality because the musicians will listen to their instruments/vocals via this box during the recording sessions which will influence their performance finally.
So you may not buy the very cheapest pieces of that kinda gear.

As for the control surface you intend to get, please, notice that the Presonus from that link
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/det...e-with-effects
was not a control surface but an analogue live/recording desk with a built in USB-audio interface.
It will work like an analogue recording desk and you also could use it as your audio interface instead of the Focusrite 18i20.
However it will not work as a controller surface for Pro Tools. You will not be able to control your Pro Tools faders etc. via this guy.

If you are looking for a control surface for Pro Tools you rather may check out these for example.

If you want the original stuff from Avid in this price range check out this one.

These are control surfaces that will work with Pro Tools and they also will have motorized faders and programmable buttons and knobs. With such surfaces you will be able to control several functions within Pro Tools.

However these control surfaces do not offer any audio in/outs and no audio interface function. You will have to get the Focusrite 18i20 for these applications separately/additionally.

The best of success to you whichever route you decide to go finally.

Have fun.
