Re: HD Native Personal Mini Review
HD Native is not limited like Pro Tools 9 open. (PTO).

Re: HD Native Personal Mini Review
Tom,
Aside from the gain-staging issues you talk about, could you explain how even just an HD1 could be less powerful than PT Native? With an HD system, can't you use all the native capability of the computer for RTAS, plus the DSP on the HD card? Then you have the advantage of not having to mess with buffer settings when tracking, and you can use TDM plugs IF you need to. I'm missing something for sure. Thanks! |

Running pt9 with a HD1 will only give you 96 tracks. the HD1 core card on its own is quite restricted in tracks and voice counts, especially at 96k. Running PT 9 HD native will give you 192 tracks and max voices. chris

It's a limitation that a company has to grow.

TDM is great when you have a load of cash and have 3 cards, if you don't have that, not so much fun when doing music with a lot going on. |

Why do you have to worry about levels more in TDM land? Is this common knowledge? Thanks... |

Here's one article that discusses it. In practice, TDM is much more sensitive re headroom. People that use TDM have gotten used to very good gain staging practices, which is a good thing actually. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun1...es/pt_0610.htm |

Re: HD Native Personal Mini Review
Thanks for the review Tom! I have been waiting to see how this system performs.
I am currently using Pro Tools 9/Apogee Symphony/Rosetta 800 with a 12 core Mac and am getting similar performance from the tests I have run so far. Only issue is if I ever need direct monitoring I don't have the option to date in PT9. I need to run Logic 9 as well. Have you tried the new card with other software using the new Core Audio Driver for PT Native? |
