Default Repost: PT10 File naming weirdness

Hi.

I'm just starting to work in PT10 and the first thing I did generated unexpected results. Just dragging a few audio files from the finder to protools, the application generates numbers for the clip names. If I show the file names in the clip pane, it shows that the parent files are still in tact, but I can't get it to show the parent name as the clip name in the edit window. It's impossible for me to work with clips if I can't see their names. Instead of Wind_Steady_Long_Tunnel, I'm looking at 12256, which is a work flow killer.

Now, if I import the same audio files into protools via the "import audio" command, the files are named as I would expect them. But... I'm not going to be using that command because Command-A no longer selects all of the files in the directory, but instead adds them to the add bin. And besides, Import Audio is another flow killer. Drag and drop to protools should work as expected without confusing the issue.

Off to a bad start with PT10. Does anyone know if there's a solution to this?

Hi Jamey

Can you tell us the format of the audio files you're dropping into PT?

Where did you create them?

Cheers

Rail

Is it possible the number is coming from some embedded metadata?

New import options ? This ought to be interesting.

If it's a bug, better push out a fix fast, and make it small, not 1 GB.

Can't say I have your troubles.

Drag and drop works fine for me. File names stay as they should.

Thanks for the replies.

Not sure where and how these files were created, as they came to me from a client but it never mattered before.

I've uploaded one of these files here:
http://dramaticmusic.com/Deliveries/...mage_01_es.zip

When I drop this file into PT10, it renames the clip to Animal_11.

Would someone kindly download this file and drag and drop it into PT10 for me? Just to verify that others are exhibiting the same behavior?

Thanks,
Jamey

I can confirm it here, Jamey. That's a weird one. I checked the metadata in Soundminer, and I don't see anything about Animal_11 in there at all… It's also happening when dragging from Workspace. I have found three workarounds, either Import Audio as you've found, or drag the file from the finder directly onto the timeline, or directly into the clip bin. I hope that helps.

Thanks Chris.
My workaround is to just batch save as new files and then everything works as expected. Sucks that PT10 is forcing me into this extra step, but at least there is a workaround for now.

So what's up with not being able to select all in the import audio interface?

Strange.

I downloaded your example clip and it still works perfectly fine for me. No file rename at all, it's exactly as it is in Finder.

Can we get some system details?

I have not verified that this happens on my main TDM rigs as I'm on the road at the moment but it's definitely happening on my stock MacBook pro (latest
Model, 15" 2.4ghz quad i7 w/ 8GB RAM, OS10.7.2). Using PT10HD with gobs of plugins (downloaded last night).
