Problems moving from Beige G3 to Quicksilver
The system I bought second hand came with the original 40Gb IBM Drive and a 60Gb Maxtor drive. They're both 7200 rpm and running on ATA0 as Master and slave.
I intended moving my Western Digital Jumbo Buffer drives to the Quicksilver as follows: ATA0 60 Gb Maxtor Drive MASTER - System drive 120 Gb WDJB SLAVE - Storage/Backup ATA1 Pioneer A07 DVD-R MASTER 40 Gb WDJB SLAVE - Audio Drive Problem is. the power and ATA connectors coming off the DVD drive housing are only long enough to reach the Zip drive housing! I've seen people listing they're systems with more than 1 drive before but I know from benchmarking my G3 and general use that running the audio drive off it's own ATA channel seperate from the system drive is the best way of doing things. It made a VERY dramatic difference on my old beige system What's my best option? Firewire case for the Western Digital, longer ATA and power cables or a PCI ATA card? There's room for 3 drives in addition to the system drive but I was kind of off the idea of getting an ATA card just to run 1 extra unless it's cheap. |
