Default Is this a 002 wiring Harness Problem?

May 30, 2011
Help me please.
I have a 2009 Macbook Pro laptop (Mac OSX 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) from which I interface my Digi 002 for audio recording using Protools LE 8 (8.0.3pre-release). When I bought these two in 2009, they worked fine and have been working just until last year. Now, when I turn on the Digi 002 it appears to run normal, but when I open Protools it gives the error “Unable to locate Digidesign hardware. Make sure your hardware is connected and turned on Click OK when the hardware is ready.” After this, no matter what I do it will not start up Protools.

I have had the Firewire cable and the Firewire port on the Macbook tested at an Apple store and both are working fine. Assuming it was the Firewire ports on the Digi I have had both replaced with new ones. The problem is still occurring. To confirm the Protools LE8 is working properly, I plug in my M Box with a USB port and everything works fine, no error message, no problem recording with the Digi 002.

When I start the Digi 002, the normal startup (Validating, Loading, Standby)and the standalone green light comes on and the red mute light. Pressing the mute button turns off the red light. Pressing the standalone green button brings up the choice of running standalone or not as normal. The Firewire 1394 link light on the back of the Digi 002 lights up when the firewire cable is plugged in, but the 1394 light on the console does not.

Help me to determine if this is the famous wiring cable problem or something else. If it is, how do I get a replacement wiring harness.?

Sure sounds like it. Take the back off completely. Disconnect the sockets, clean off the pins.

Put the back on again. Should work for a few days before it goes down again. Call AVID, get another harness.

I have had two harnesses. I have had to take the back off and do this process hundreds of times.

I finally gave up. Retired the 002 last night. Broke down and got an MBox(3)
