Default Petition - Make PT Performance A Sticky - Plz Read

Greetings,

This is a call to all PC/MAC users alike to get Digi to make the performance thread a sticky. It's the 5th busiest thread on the Windows LE board. IMHO - The benefits to new purchases and those seeking an upgrade solution can be invaluable.

No ego intended here... I would even go as far as to recommend Digi use this test to benchmark their recommended (i.e. supported) DAW's so that we may all have a standardized measurement (based on the performance chart -- Chart ) of how the recommended systems rank before making a purchase/upgrade.

For those building their own or buying outside the Digi certified systems can use these tests to rank their DAW. Most purchases have a 15/30-day money-back/exchange so that someone trying out a new system can quickly gauge their system and change if need be. I know I personally would have done so for my last DAW upgrade.

I know this is a big leap which is why I'm starting this petition. If we can get enough of the community to push this, we can make the case to Digi. If not, no harm, no worries; however, I do believe there is value in these normalized tests and a standardized performance rating.

Anyhow, call me nutz ; but I think this is worth at least a once-over. I'd like to hear your Yay's or Nay's alike.

Hoping to hear from everyone.

Standardised testing is/would be a major plus for determining the real benefits of tweaks/upgrades etc.. That's a big YES from me

Could you explain the chart you posted

Cheers, Scott

It's a best guess estimation of what each of the MOBO's capacities (i.e. Single Processor, Dual and Quad) based partly on past results and personal intuition . Once you've determined the test level you can achieve the chart will indicate whether your DAW is performing in either of the 5 levels (level 6 being impossible - until I'm proved wrong ).

This chart may change over time as I get more data coming in from people's experiments and increase my sample size (statistically). So expect some changes over time as poeple start posting.

I give this a Yay.

Count me in. This should be a sticky.

The davec test has been used for years here on both mac and pc. It has been used to not only compare systems but also to trouble shoot etc. Many have tried to improve and replace it. The replacements have never caught on. Now that Dave is back and has ammended some confusion in the first one and created a new one, I think it deserves to be a sticky.
