Default Best Anti-virus??

I will begin by saying "Please no solutions that involve not having your PC ONLINE." It's a necessity because of my workflow. Here's the problem...everything was working great on 12.4 HD/Win 10. UNTIL Norman anti-virus somehow got absorbed by AVG, and now I am getting constant cpu spikes, and that annoying message that I'm running out of CPU power, even though I'm at maybe 2%. Norman stayed out of the way, and the ONLY thing that has changed is the AVG "update." Anybody running Norton or McAfee, and does IT stay out of the way? Or have positive experience with something else? Thanks in advance!

I just use Windows Defender and safe browsing habits.

Never have had a problem and it's a light footprint. I'd like to hear what others are using though too.

1) I prefer SuperAntiSpyware free version. It stays out-of-the-way and never runs until you manually get updates & manually run it. I think the paid version gets updates automatically, so don't get the paid version.
2) Safe browsing habits.
3) Keep a current/working/virus-free boot-drive image backup, just in case...

Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware free versions, safe browsing and an imaging plan. Macrium Reflect images my OS nightly and before any update/upgrade/install/uninstall. 15 to 20 minutes away from a working system.

Just curious ... why do you think a nightly image is necessary? I do take an image before any update/upgrade/install/uninstall. Thanks !!!
