Digi 001 discontinued?!

I got an email the other day from a guy that was selling me his 001 for $400. It turnd out that he decided to turn arround and sell it to someone else after we had an agreement, but thats life. Anyway, he told me that the last shipment of 001s was being made to stores and that they wouldn't be sold anymore. Has anyone else heard about this? I'm assuming that this would drop the price! Also a feew weeks ago I read in a thread somewhere thatsomeone saw 001s in their local guitar center for $359! If thats true, pick me up one!

I suspected that might happen with the introduction of the 002 rack.

Too bad - the lowest latency on all other LE systems is 256 samples, which IMHO is not acceptable for tracking.

Thanks to the 002R, the 001 should be extinct. Two similar platforms add confusion to consumers. Not to mention the 'latest and greatest' technology advantage of the 002R over the 001. I've had my 001 for many years and it has served me well for the money. But it seems, with eventual (and inevitable) support dwindling for 001 (ask the Tool Box/AudioMedia 3 guys how much that has been), it's time to move on.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Other than having two additional XLR inputs and firewire for laptop users, what "technology advantage" is there for desktop users? The higher latency and higher price are severe disadvantages that grossly outweigh those other two minor conveniences, IMHO.

Everything else is the same: same total inputs, same output configuration, same digital I/O capabilities, same A/D conversion, same software. I don't buy that the "Focusrite" preamps are any better than what's in the 001.

No irony intended: if I missed some difference other than above, please tell me.

I think one of the biggest things is the Firewire interface. It can now be used with any new Mac and not just the towers. I would like to see a smaller Firewire replacement of the 001 for around the same price or lower with four combo jacks. I don't know if it will happen but I would like to see something of the sort. There is too big of a difference between the Mbox and the 002 rack.
