Default EQ frenzy How much

In years past I forced myself to be a minimalist and only used EQ when absolutely necessary, and usually to correct problems. I think that part of my approach evolved from being in the analog world and only having only a few premium outboard EQs. My console EQs weren't that great. In the several months that I have been an owner of a PTHD system I have been on an EQ frenzy with McDSP and Sonox. I still can't get over how amazing these digital EQs are.

How much are you guys using EQ? Is it something you occasionally use or do you tweak most of your tracks? How about your stereo mix?

I use eq whenever I need to, which means quite a lot. Eq is a tool that I really use more and more of, and I can only conclude with that my ears are finally working. Hey, this is just my hobby.

Very often a 1 db cut or boost is enough to get the track to sit nicely in the mix.

I never eq the stereo bus, but I often use highpass filters, sometimes compression/limiting, and more often than not a Portico 5042 tape fx as my "transient designer".

Depends on what I'm working on. Pop music sounds bear little resemblance to their real world counterparts. Do kick drums really sound like that? NO. Do snares? NO. Enter the lowly equalizer. Go to town as the sound dictates I say.

Yes, the lowly equalizer is an amazing tool.
