Default PC Build Help

Hi, could anyone please point me in the direction of which motherboard to get combined with an Intel i7 Processor.. i would like a little future proof so a board with 64Gb would be ok. Been using an Asus Rampage Formula board for years with Pro Tools 7 - 12.6 which seemed ok but as my system is 11 years old im very much behind the times. Does Pro Tools still require a certain chipset as when i built my system 11 years ago it was the X48 chipset.

Many Thanks

Steve

Indeed^^^ Pick your chipset(like X99, X399, etc) and you might consider going with a Gigabyte mobo as Avid's current recommendations don't support Asus. Now, "not supported" doesn't mean "won't work", but since you are starting from scratch, why tempt fate Having said that, for myself, I had lots of errors and issues with my Asus X99 rig, but my older Asus X79 system is humming along nicely with the current version of PT Ultimate

My Asus x99 worked really well. Until I tried their add-on Thunderbolt card. I mean, they said it was Thunderbolt-ready. Didn’t work. So I have an Asus x99 mobo sitting in a box, because I went with a a Gigabyte board that has integral Thunderbolt. If TB isn’t important to you, then the Asus board should be just fine.

Can't seem to find it, sorry. I have no ax to grind with Asus and my only intent is to steer folks toward good choices. Buy whichever brand you like

Designar x99, socket 2011 v.3, with integrated TB. Even though it’s discontinued, I got that one in particular so it would take my old i7 & ram.
