Default Video engine, subtitle track

Hi, I know this is a long shot, but...

It would be very nice for my workflow if the avid video engine could read and overlay subtitle tracks (either external .srt or embedded), just like any old video player does. Video Slave does it, I know..
For that matter, a basic feature like timecode overlay would be great too.

Thanks

I haven't done so in maybe a decade, but I used to import a text file into my QuickTime, using QuickTime. It would create the subtitle track (for adr cues). It's not as simple as your suggestion, but could you do that prior to importing the video into Pro Tools and have it show?

Hi yes that reminds me!!! Long ago I used to do something similar, with a little program called QT sync, it was able to add a TC track without the need to reencode. I'll have to try it today but I bet it will not work.. I'll get back

UPDATE: Well I created a simple text track embedded in a quicktime mov and it shows in Quicktime Pro 7 but, as expected, in Pro Tools it does not show.

Cheers

Shutter Encoder has many powerful features... subtitling is one I just learned of. You can even create straight from within the app. It exports a .srt file which you can directly add as an overlay.

You can also quickly and easily do a timecode burn, which is super fast.
