Networking caused Pro Tools to run slowly...
I have a Dell Latitude laptop running Windows XP Professional.
For ages now I've found that when I run Pro Tools 8 (with CTK) whilst connected via Wireless network, Pro Tools runs painfully slowly. As soon as I disable the wireless connection it runs at normal speed. Does anyone know what I can do to configure the system to work with Wireless network connected? Eddy |

Re: Networking caused Pro Tools to run slowly...
Probably nothing. some wireless network adapters may cause all sorts of crashes/bugs/sluggishness. I recommend you disable it and maybe try a cable.

Re: Networking caused Pro Tools to run slowly...
Eddy, if you read through the troubleshooting and set-up instructions you'll find that they recommend you shut off your wireless network adapter. Your obviously finding out why.
Set up a second hardware profile with all the extra stuff turned off for when your running ProTools. It may seem like a pain to have to re-boot to go online but that's probably your best bet to have a usable recording system.

Try WLAN Optimizer:
http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/ It really helped getting the dpc latency spikes (which occur every 60 seconds because of WLAN roaming) down on my machine.. no more dropouts. WLAN up and running while I'm connected with my laptop to my MBox 2 Mini in the living room and to my Digi 003 via firewire while in the studio room and everything's playing nicely. Really nice little FREE tool |

Well otobot, you're absolutely right. I installed WAN Optimizer and it solved the problem! I'd love to know what this tool actually does but there's no documentation - I'll just have to trust it I guess!
thanks a lot!!! Eddy |

Re: Networking caused Pro Tools to run slowly...
You're welcome
I too was quite amazed when I found out about WLan Optimizer some weeks ago. Normally audio together with wireless lan or WiFi as it is called is a nogo. Because of incredibly high dpc latency spikes that cause system latency that occur everytime the wireless adapter roams for another AP, normally every 60 seconds. (this behaviour cannot be turned off with most adapters.) Don't know how WLan Optimizer works, but I'm very happy that it works |
