Default Only NVIDIA graphics cards are supported (PC)????

At HD Native Card system requirements, avid qualified computers,I read:"Notes for all windows users:
Only NVIDIA graphics cards are supported (PC)"

So everyone here is using N card while no body is using ATI card?

"Supported" means that Avid has tested it, not that others will not work. I'm no expert on video cards, but this card works in my rig:

...or a similar ATI-based Radeon card. I connect HDMI to a 42" 1080P TV for the edit window (looks awesome), and DVI to a 23" monitor for the mix window. Hope this helps !!!

They both have advantages and disadvantages. Nvidia has PhysX, ATI has EyeFinity. Various little differences.

Either way... there's no real reason why an AMD/ATI card shouldn't work. Considering the fact that most Apple systems use AMD these days for graphics. I have an HD 6850 in my system, and it works great.

I was more pointing towards the quality and frequency of the driver updates and performance revisions with Nvidia.

some will work.. thats pretty much as far as it goes...

as filosofem points out.. NVIDIA is a much better company,
and has, for the past decade at least, manufactured much more
reliable vid cards, frequent updates and revisions....

they have worked very closely with INTEL, ASUS, MSI, EVGA etc, to ensure
their product is well supported across the board.. so much so that they've actually
got a line of chipsets which have been amazing over the years.. i still own an older
3200+ asus board with nForce chipset... great stuff... fast and reliable as all hell.. still going.. !

i used to do installs / repairs on pcs and ATI has always, always been an absolute pain in the arse when it comes to drivers / software coding... its actually the reason
they went under, well, if it wasnt for AMD saving their beehives.... lol

i still dont trust them... specially with how important systems integration is and has always been in Windows, which is what we're talking about here..

so yes there are several reasons why some ATI cards will be absolutely useless for PT in a windows environment... crappy, slow arse software... nail in the coffin.. my .02

I run 3 ATI video cards in my HDX rig, pushing 5 monitors (3 at the console and 2 at the MIDI station). And it all runs smooth as silk.

Yes, all too true.

But I will concede that if I were building from scratch, and had no clue about the exceptions to the rule... I would likely start with NVIDIA.

heheh.. yah... its generally been the safest bet for media production for almost a decade now...
they are not without their faults.. but frequent driver updates usually smooth things over rather quickly...
reason i stick with'em..

glad to hear your build is trucking right along though...
