7.4 LE Slow start up
Recently my Pro Tools has been noticeably slower on initial launch. When I first launch I get the bouncing PT icon in the dock for about 30 seconds, followed by the usual loading window, which cruises at a normal pace. After the load window finishes, no PT menu appears, although the dock shows the application open, when you select it, still no menu. Then the dreaded spinning disc, at which time Pro Tools turns red in the Activity Monitor window.
I have tried the usual preference trashing and such. Once it starts up it runs fine and is stable. I am just curious what might be causing this. Here are my system details Pro Tools 7.4 LE Ignition Pack 2 DV Toolkit2 Mbox 2 Pro (connected to Mac firewire) Focusrite Liquid Mix (connected to PCI firewire card) Altiverb 6.1.4 Izotope Ozone 3.15 Izotope RX 1.06 MOTU Mach 5 Mac G5 Dual 2.0 (M9455LL/A) 4.5 gigs RAM Seagate ST3250620AS 250gig SATA hard drive (for audio) EZ Quest Pro Audio Firewire Drive (for quicktimes) MOTU Micro Express(USB) Thanks, Semi-patiently awaiting LE Leopard compatibility so I can use my new 8 core. |

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
What happens if you log into a different admin account and test from there?
Also, you could try moving all plug-ins out of the plug-ins folder, trash prefs and test again - that will help narrow down if it's a plug-in issue. |

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
Haven't tried a different log in yet. I'll give that a try.
I didn't have this problem before and I was running the same set of plug ins as I am now. The only plug in that has changed is Liquid Mix, I suspected it, so I removed it and tried but to no avail. |

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
I know your plug-ins haven't changed, but can you try the plug-in test anyways. One or more of your installed plug-ins could have become corrupted. Make sure to trash preferences after removing plug-ins.

Respectfully noted! I'll give it a shot.

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
Removed ALL plug ins, trashed prefs as requested, same behavior.
Just so you know, it's not preventing me from working, it just seems odd. Thanks again. |

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
I'm really not sure where to look next, specifically. I think the next real line of troubleshooting would be disconnecting devices from the computer to see if removing a particular one has an effect on Pro Tools launch.

Re: 7.4 LE Slow start up
At this point, since I have no stability issues, I'm just gonna live with it. Hopefully when the Leopard compatible release comes out and I start using the new 8 core, it won't be an issue.
Thanks anyway. |
