Default What is?

What is "compinsate for output delays after record pass" exactly?

Found in I/O set up under outs

It compensates for the latency in the Digidesign interface. It properly places the audio on the timeline after the record pass, placing audio earlier to compensate for the time it takes audio to pass through the Digidesign interface.

I usually keep the record pass compensation boxes checked for both input and output.

Wow! Through my 3 years using Pro Tools HD, I have never noticed that little checkbox until today. Mine has been off the whole time (default settings).

I haven't noticed problems. Does everybody always have this setting on? Even with the buggy ADC stuff these days?

It's only for recording. It compensates for the i/o latency of the AD/DA converters in the digidesign interface.

When recording, the artist is getting a headphone mix. There's a small amount of latency on that headphone mix because of latency of the DA converters in the digidesign interface. This is what you'd use the "compensate for output delays" checkbox for.

Also when recording, there's a small amount of latency incurred from the latency of the AD converters in the digidesign interface. This is what you'd use the "compensate for input delays" checkbox for.

With both boxes checked, after the record pass is stopped, the audio is nudged back by Pro Tools by the total latency amount of the AD/DA converters.

I always leave both boxes checked.

Does that make it more clear?
