PT won't playback/record
setup a laptop for a friend using PT 8.4 on Win 7. Have several instrument tracks with MIDI and using Xpand for sounds. Record enable all the tracks and instruments all play correctly. Try to record and STOP button immediately lights up as well as the "pie chart" buttons to the left and right, which flash. (believe at least one of these is the online indicator). Regardless, cannot record or playback anything. Have tried buffer settings to no avail. what am I missing?

Maybe you turned on the "wait for midi" function?

good idea but checked that. no joy. this odd because I've used PT for years and while not an "expert", am certainly proficient and cannot figure this out.
