Fed up with being treated like a 4 year old by PT
I've decided that I'm fed up with being treated like a 4 year old by PT. Yes, I know that "deleting groups in not undoable" Yes, I know that I am about to "write the automation to the end and overwrite previous automation" that's WHY I pushed that button. Yes I know tha "deleting a file will make it gone forever!" I really do. Yes, I know some of these dialogs, such as the last example, don't show up when you use the option key, but a lot of them pop up and drive me crazy.
Here's a suggestion, instead of just having the options "okay" and "cancel" why not have an option of "don't remind me again". That way you can still have the dialog to remind careless users what is going to happen if they get what they want, leaving other users, like me only have to dismiss the dialog once. |

None of those show up when you use the option key. Even having said that, I'm with you totally on this one. I wish the transport didn't stop when you do a write to end/start too. Please Mr 7.2? Pete |

Well, 7.2 should make you happy on some counts.
We don't have the "don't ask me again" infrastructure, but we did put in a preference to display (or not) the warnings for "write to start/all/end" etc. But better still, you can now do all those commands w/o stopping the transport. I know. Pro Tools does act like a mom sometimes. That's 'cause some of the kids haven't learned yet...<g> Danny Caccavo Product Manager Digidesign |

Re: Fed up with being treated like a 4 year old by PT
The number one most annoying nag-screen in PT is the sensational news screen that one can not move regions withouth the fade. Nuber two is the great hint that one can not extend fades beyod the boudary.
But there are two button that are definitely missing in the delete dialogue: "Yes to all" and "No to all". those would help. Right now I sometimes set a cup of coffee on the ESC-key and walk away when I accidently selected all regions in the session and hit apple-shift-B and selected delete to fast. In a large film project it can take 5 minutes till the coffee cup has canceled all the confirmation screens that pop up for every single file. frank.

Re: Fed up with being treated like a 4 year old by
i'll second the issue about the fades...
I don't understand why I can't do a lot of things to begin with... like moving regions without the fades... (at least give me a choice) Or an even bigger one... if you use beat detective and try to fill gaps and crossfade a large chunk and there's only a single crossfade, it won't let you do ANY of it... and then you have to go and find the damn thing manually... which, on a drum edit with 100+ splices, can be more than a little bit of a pain... And I know that should probably be a feature request... but i've done that and I'm beginning to get the feeling that nobody ever reads those things... because if they did, why can't we renumber markers yet? Edit and delete large numbers of non consecutive playlists in some way other than a large drop down menu? and so on... I just wish I felt like somebody at Digi actually was listening to some of these issues and could say "we can't do that yet because ____" even if it is something as simple as "we are dedicating our resources to some other stuff right now" But thank you Danny for coming on board to give some updates. It makes me feel a little less like a child whose mom is too busy buying nice suits for her stockholder husband to worry about feeding the kids |
