Default Newbie of one day--basic question

Hello,

Brand new user, just got MBox 2 mini, and I an having a problem that I am sure is probably readily resolvable to someone that knows what the heck they are doing. Pro Tools 7.3.1 on a Dell

I laid down drum machine for a guide track (through line) on track one and no problems

Track two I planned on using mic'ed guitar, pressed the R, it blinks, pressed the record enable, it blinks red, but I get nothing showing up on the mixer--I hear the ol 57 in my headphones (so I have a signal to the MBox), but it registers nothing in the level indicator box beside the slider. (P.S.Not a condenser mic, does not need phantom power)

1. I have cranked up everything as high as it goes but nothing.
2. Input is set to interface>In 2(mono) and the automation mode selector is on auto read
3. Both mic and cable have been tested on my trusty acoustonic jr

I would greatly appreciate any help anyone might have

THanks Scott, but still nothing. Another thing I noticed is that when I hit the pad for input 2 (whioh I am not using) or the phantom power switch (again which I am not using) the level bounces clear up into the red but quickly fades back and again nothing.

I am sure there is some simple answer that my rudimentary understanding of PT just doesn't see. THanks for your help
