No more reinstatement just subscription or full price.

That’s me off the Avid gravy train.
Hopefully Avid goes under and Pro Tools is picked up by a worthy company.

Yes but the as long as you dont let the plan lapse you can still get your annual support plan for Perpetual licenses. That new policy is for LAPSED plans which is like if you have a 2017 or 2018 PT there are no more reinstatement options. The only way will be subscription which you cross over to and have no perpetual license anymore or buy a new license .... For thos who wanna keep their perpetual licenses make sure to buy the yearly plan in time so the plan you have dont lapse and all will be OK in terms of keeping your perpetual PT License.

PS. Nige - Sorry to hear you are leaving. Hope you find something else that you like and see you somewhere else on the web.

Paying $99 seemed like an upkeep sort of thing. Paying$199 seems like a subscription anyway of $17 a month. To add insult they give subscription heat and the plugins on top of a lack luster year of updates and apple breaking everything with Catalina.

Avid has announced a reduction in both the Pro Tools and Pro Tools Ultimate reinstatement plans until their end of life on 31st December 2019. See the updated version of our article on Reinstatement Pricing.

The key thing is do not buy a reinstatement plan until Avid has reduced the pricing which should be sometime today.

Thanks for the info, but the crowd around here is not so happy with that news, so.....

The best thing, is to NOT give a single penny to Avid again!

Cheers!

Perpetual licensing is toast. I think that really is the only outcome of this. They keep saying it isn't going anywhere, but if they actually valued it they wouldn't be introducing these changes. What they are doing is stripping out any existing value in perpetual licences to make the subscription seem like a much better deal...

Over the next couple of years, I reckon it is probably only going to get worse. Few new features, and more paid addons like HEAT will be launched. They will be added to the subscription for free, yet cost perpetual license owners an arm and a leg to obtain. It's just the beginning of pushing perpetual licenses back further and further into the corner.

I think it's either a case of bunkering down for a subscription filled future, or bailing out now. In some ways, bailing out now seems like the smartest idea. Sure, your perpetual license gets locked at the current version... but what difference does it matter if Avid are planning on doing it anyway? You could jump on a subscription in 2021... and be smug with the knowledge you gave Avid less money that a lot of other people! Whether or not Avid do anything to actually warrant you give them money is another story entirely.

It is hard to imagine other software developers won't see this as an opportunity to scoop up old Avid customers.
