Default Can converter errors cause waveform errors like ..

What happens if the A/D converter can't keep up with the recording, would it do this to the waveform?
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>
-
-
- -
- - -
- - - -
- - -
- - - </pre><hr />
heres the same waveform repaired in Soundforge with the pencil tool:
<font class="small">Code:<hr /><pre>
-
-
- - -
- - - -
- - - -
- -
</pre><hr />
I detect these errors in many files when scanning for errors in Soundforge (when using the find glitch tool and zooming in), Computer can do 32+11 in DaveC with no errors at 128 H/W buffer size. would using 3rd party A/D converter help in this situation?

Note: don't confuse this waveform problem with improper use of crossfades or shuffling 2 seperate regions together without Zero crossing as these errors are found in contiguous non-stop .wav recordings.

Looks like a clocking error.. which converter are you using, and how do you have it interfaced to Pro Tools?

If you're using an external device, do you have the sample rate in the the device set to the same sample rate as the Pro Tools session, do you have Pro Tools set to external clock, do you have the external device set to internal clock?

Using the internal 002's A/D and preamps. no external gear at this time.

Then make sure that you're clocked to internal - if you already are.. then it's a hard drive issue.. check your DMA and IRQ stuff -- it'll be a write error. Turn off any cache or write behind stuff and see if it improves.

Thanks again for the help , using a Promise Ultra133TX2 IDE Controller card and there is no option in the driver control panel or in the HD properties box's for disabling any cache options whatsoever (Promise card is a pseudo SCSI device so it treats HD's like SCSI drives), I cannot use the motherboards IDE ports as PTLE will have other problems (been that route), The card is using latest drivers from promise.com and HD's are most definitely using DMA as per SiSoft and AIDA32, no sharing IRQ's either in BIOS post screens or in XP (APIC, NForce2), any reg tweaks to force disable write caching that you know of?

One more thing, Is it possible to disable this "write cache" with an external IEEE1394 drive using Oxford chipset?

this might be my only other option with this computer.

I have a similar card - look at these pics which show how mine is set up and which driver I'm using.

Yes there is.. (this is with XP Pro)

Open Explorer to look at your drives, select a drive and right click on it and select properties

Click on the Hardware tab - select a drive in the list and press the button labeled Properties and select the Policies tab.

There you can set the write caching, etc.

Ah, those are Maxtor custom Promise drivers?

2.00.0.43
2.00.0.42
from promise.com dont have this option,.

So from your screenshots it looks like you have write caching enabled for more stability, I would want to uncheck the box correct?

I'll give em a try on the PTLE machine.

You want to try changing the value(s) and seeing if the problem persists... I had originally turned this off, but had no problems with it on -- so left it on.

Experiment with the different settings and see if it's any better.

Of course, you may just have a bad 002 power harness too... or a FireWire issue... which FireWire card do you have? Do you have the issue with FireWire drives?
