Pro Tools 12 question
I'm new to Pro Tools. I purchased pro tools 11 and the computer guy upgraded to pro tools 12. I had bought the book Pro Tools 11 by Andrew Hagerman but now I'm stuck with pro tools 12. Should I wait till the pro tools 12 book is published, or will the pro tools 11 book be good enough to get me started on this learning journey?
My previous home recording gear is the BR-1180-CD. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Pro Tools 12 question
The "computer guy" purchased you a pro Tools 12 license right? Just upgrading the software won't work unless you have a license on your iLok for that software.
Pro Tools 12 was basically Pro Tools 11, but 12.2 adds some features from Pro Tools HD. Everything a user needs to know from the Pro Tools 11 book will work the same in Pro Tools 12. If you are just gettign started and have pro Tools 12 just use it. There is a large "Pro Tools Reference Guide" PDF that comes with the software that will explain all those HD features, resolve any questions you run into. |

Re: Pro Tools 12 question
Hi Darryl, thanks for your response. I bought a brand new pro tools 11. I told the computer guy to install it on my brand new 27" IMAC. He took it upon himself to upgrade to pro tools 12. I'm sure that the pro tools 11 came with a license, however I don't know about the upgrade to 12.
Thanks, Paul |

Re: Pro Tools 12 question
Well does Pro Tools 12 start up?
If he just installed Pro Tools 12 software to your computer and your iLok has a Pro Tools 11 license key on it Pro Tools 12 will not start up. The average "computer guy" probalby should just not be messing with Pro Tools. Not unless they spend some time getting up to speed on systems requirements, installation and optimization documentation. |

Re: Pro Tools 12 question
I'm guessing, though blindly, but possibly he bought the 'brand new Pro Tools 11' recently, and so when the 'computer guy' went through the activation process as part of installing it for him, it would have come up with the free upgrade to PT12.
It just sounds to me like the 'computer guy' didn't do a great job of explaining what he'd done. Maybe that's all there is to this story. The proof is, as you say, does Pro Tools launch ok? If it does, question answered.
