Default 7.3 strange behavior

I've never experienced this problem with earlier versions. After working normally for a couple of hours, all of a sudden in the edit window, no matter where in the song I try to start playback, it immediately returns to the beginning. For example, if I try to drag the scroll thing at the bottom of the window to the middle of the song so I can insert the cursor to begin playback from that point, it immediately snaps back to the beginning. The same thing happens if I try to insert in the timeline. Anyone ever seen this kind of behavior? Thanx...
